The four customers you didn’t know your certification has

If you’re speaking to everyone, you’re probably missing the ones who matter most.

When I ask certification leaders, “Who’s your customer?” I usually get one answer. But here’s the thing, you’ve got at least four.

And if you’re speaking to all of them the same way, you’re leaving trust (and traction) on the table.

Your Four Customers

1️⃣ The Organizations Investing in the Standard
These are the companies paying for the process. They want proof it’s worth the time, money, and internal effort. Your job is to make the business case crystal clear.

2️⃣ The Individuals Earning Credentials
From project managers to technical specialists, they’re on the front lines of compliance. They want tools, clarity, and a clear path to success. (Not a maze of PDFs.)

3️⃣ The Service Providers and Partners
They deliver your standard in the real world. They need training, marketing assets, and ways to prove their expertise so they can win more business.

4️⃣ The Public
The folks who may never read your standard but need to understand why it matters. Public trust drives demand, and demand drives adoption.

The problem is that a single homepage can’t serve all four well.

That’s why the orgs we see growing fastest build a digital ecosystem:

  • Different entry points for different audiences
  • Messaging tailored to their needs
  • Tools and resources designed for each role in the journey

When someone lands on your site, they should see themselves in your story, within seconds. The better you match their goals, the faster they move from “interested” to “invested.”

And when each audience feels seen, your standard doesn’t just get adopted, it gets championed.

Keep up the good work,
Shane
